Tender description

RACE is developing the DEMO Remote Maintenance Test Facility (RMTF), which is intended to mitigate remote handling risks in the DEMO tokamak reactor project and to advance RACE’s understanding of handling blanket segments – heavy, flexible payloads lining the inside of the reactor vessel. The programme of work for the RMTF will involve the development and subsequent integration of a number of test rigs delivering a range of DEMO relevant capabilities. The TR0 Modular Integration Work Cell (the subject of this procurement specification, henceforth referred to as “TR0”) has been commissioned as a first step in understanding the performance of robotic systems when handling flexible payloads. TR0 will facilitate the development of control algorithms and will help to inform (and therefore de-risk) the design of subsequent RMTF test rigs. About the buyer

The UK Atomic Energy Authority is the central government body behind the UK's fusion energy programmes and tenders every opportunity above a low-value threshold. Opportunities and notices are published on the Central Digital Platform, also known as Find a Tender. Bidders access all tender documents through EU Supply, the authority's centralised platform. Much of this procurement flows through government frameworks, including the Crown Commercial Service. A quarterly procurement pipeline gives visibility of larger forthcoming opportunities. Two published charters, on the supply chain and on social value, set out the authority's approach to its suppliers.

Procurement spend from central entities makes up 66% of overall UK public spend.

Over the past 5 years, most of the UK Atomic Energy Authority's contract awards have been in IT services, software and information systems and industrial machinery.
