Tender description
For the HM Coroner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to be able to fulfil their statutory duties associated with determining the identity of the deceased together with how, when and where they became deceased, it is necessary to have arrangements in place for toxicology services. It is the responsibility of the Cambridgeshire County Council to provide the Coroner with such services. Toxicology samples are collected from the deceased by pathologists in the mortuary. These can be blood, urine, vitreous fluid and stomach contents. Toxicological evidence is sometimes needed to help the pathologist to determine a cause of death. The successful provider will be required to complete toxicology and other investigations / examinations as required by the Coroner, including interpretation, reporting and advice. This will also involve forensic toxicology and post-mortem toxicology. Lot 1: General toxicology services

About the buyer
Cambridgeshire County Council buys as a local authority for Cambridgeshire, with a dedicated procurement and commercial team supporting suppliers. Most tenders are published through ProContract, the council's electronic procurement system. Larger procurements also appear nationally on Find a Tender, the government's procurement portal. Health related contracts are commissioned through the Provider Selection Regime instead. The children's commissioning team runs dynamic purchasing systems for external placements, home and community support and supported accommodation for young people. A separate dynamic purchasing system covers education and social care transport, from minibuses to taxis.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Cambridgeshire County Council's contract awards have been in health and social work, construction work and IT services.
