About the buyer
Central Bedfordshire Council buys as a local authority, running its own procurement function for the area. Every tender is published on In-Tend, the council's electronic tendering portal, where suppliers register to view documents. Larger requirements are advertised on the Find a Tender Service, with Contracts Finder used for lower-value opportunities. Framework agreements are used to source many of these larger contracts. Smaller requirements are bought by direct quote from the relevant service area. The council does not use a preferred or approved list of suppliers. Registering on the portal does not guarantee inclusion in requests for quotations.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Central Bedfordshire Council's contract awards have been in construction work, architectural and engineering services and business services.
