About the buyer
Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council is a local authority that publishes its tenders and procurement procedures on The Chest e-tendering portal. Suppliers register on The Chest for email alerts about contracts that are about to be tendered. A register of the council's current contracts is published through ProContract. Larger planned procurements are listed in a pipeline on Find a Tender. Under the Procurement Act 2023, suppliers also register their core business details once on the Central Digital Platform. Existing suppliers track invoices and purchase orders through a separate supplier portal.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council's contract awards have been in health and social work, construction work and IT services.
