Collection Management Services at the National Library of Ireland

Published

Value

1,500,000 EUR

Description

The National Library of Ireland (NLI) collects material through legal deposit, purchase and donation. The provision of access to its collections - printed books, manuscripts, newspapers, prints & drawings, ephemera, photographs, periodicals, music, maps and born digital collections - is a key objective for the National Library. Such access is critically dependent on the successful management of the collections from the time material enters the Library to the time it is placed on the shelf. The National Library of Ireland proposes to engage in a competitive process in order to establish a multi-party framework agreement for Collection Management Services. The types of services which are likely to be required are grouped into 3 Lots to enable the National Library of Ireland to select appropriate service providers at the time of a mini-tender. These services can be defined as: • Metadata Creation, QA, and Enhancement – Lot 1 • Processing and Preservation – Lot 2 • Digitisation – Lot 3 Lot 1: Metadata Creation, QA, and Enhancement Services required under this Lot comprise Cataloguing (the creation of descriptive metadata for all Library material, including digital material), Authority Control (the creation, QA, correction and enhancement of authority data), Automated or Batch Metadata Processing, and Web Archiving. Lot 2: Processing and Preservation Services required under this Lot include sorting, stamping, security tagging, barcoding, labelling, boxing (making enclosures using equipment provided), shelving and shelf checking. Preservation activities include cleaning, boxing and the use of protective folders. Lot 3: Digitisation Services required comprise the digitisation of Library material including books, photographs, manuscripts, prints and formats including paper, photographic negatives, analogue sound and video recordings.
