UKAEA wish to engage with potential suppliers for the provision of tool design, development and testing to enable fusion pipe maintenance to be carried out remotely on 65mm stainless steel pipes. The maintenance functions are cutting, alignment, welding, inspection and pipe end preparation. Pipes must be cut and rejoined as part of the operational and decommissioning phases of any fusion power plant because during its lifetime components in the heart of the machine will require replacement several times and each component will have at least two pipe connections. UKAEA invite suppliers to engage with them in assessing industry capability in this area.
