Description

Peatland restoration project to be delivered in the east of The Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust’s (DWCT) Dalnacardoch Estate in the Cairngorms National Park. Lot 1: This document provides a statement of requirements for a three-year peatland restoration project to be delivered in the east of The Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust’s (DWCT) Dalnacardoch Estate in the Cairngorms National Park. This is a fixed price tender, the funding for Year 1 (2026) is secured. The works will be tendered in 2026 with the winning bidder being awarded 3 years of work on a 1+1+1 basis subject to the following: - satisfactory delivery in the previous year - availability of funding - a value for money assessment on the quote for the following year’s work which should be based on the current market rates This document provides detailed restoration plans for the works in Year 1 (2026: 51 ha) and Year 2 (2027: 53 ha) and outline plans for the works in year 3 (2028: up to ~139 ha pending design and funding). A full tender is sought for Year 1 (2026) on a fixed price basis. The works in year 1 (2026) will commence in mid-September 2026 with an expected completion date of 27th November and no later than 18th December 2026. It is anticipated that helicopter lifts will be required in all 3 years of this programme of works. For Year 1 (2026) the following quantities of imported materials will be required: - 200 x 750kg stone units (150 tonnes in total) - 1,760m2 of coir mesh & 9,600 x 300mm T- pegs - 10 x 1m coir logs, 10 x 2m coir logs & 60 x 3m coir logs - Materials for 10 x 1m timber dams, 10 x 2m timber dams, 60 x 3m timber dams & 10 x 4m timber dam The total area of the Year 1 (2026) project is 51 ha, of which c29 ha have been classified as ‘primary erosion areas’ (where features have been identified from image classification and site walkovers) and c20 ha have been classified as ‘sparse erosion areas’ (where no features have been identified from image classification and site walkovers) but where a limited amount of work may be required if additional features are found during project delivery. There are also c700m of drains which are to be blocked and c2 ha of shallow peat where no works are required. 50 x ground protection mats and 15 x bog mat bridges are required to protect watercourses and areas of wet ground along the daily access routes in Year 1.
