Description
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has played a key role in the economic and social life of Ireland since its foundation in 1900. The Departments’ vision is for a sustainable and competitive agri-food, forestry and seafood sector. The Departments’ mission is to lead, enable and regulate the sector in a way that optimises its contribution to social, economic and environmental sustainability. The Department currently employs approximately 4,000 staff across a range of disciplines including veterinarians, engineers, scientists, inspectors, and administrators. The Department are currently carrying out an annual census on Sheep, Goats, Equines and Pigs. Operators of establishments keeping Sheep, Goats, Equines and Pigs have a legal requirement to complete an annual census. Census forms are sent out and accompanied with a return envelope to a predetermined address. The following is required to be captured by a unique identifier but is not limited to: • Sheep - type of breeds and number of ewes, rams and other sheep • Goats – number of breeding or milking and other goats. • Equines – number of animals by their unique identifier. • Pigs – number of breeding or fattening by breeds. • Date of receipt and if the form is signed must also be captured. DAFM is now seeking input from relevant suppliers prior to potentially going to market for the provision of data capture services in relation to the aforementioned census.
