Published

Description

The CIÉ Group plays an important role in leading the strategic direction of the public transport network and ensuring that public sector and sectoral climate action targets are achieved by working with stakeholders to deliver high quality, low emission national transport services. CIÉ aim to be a leader in this field and to deliver legislated climate related reporting to the highest quality. One such legislated climate report is the EU Taxonomy, which aims to determine whether an economic activity contributes to certain environmental objectives and “does no harm” to others. Four criteria apply for a company to be aligned with the EU Taxonomy: 1. Substantially contribute to at least one of the following six environmental objectives: Climate change mitigation; Climate change adaptation; Sustainable use and protection of water and marine resources; Transition to a circular economy; Pollution prevention and control; Protection and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems. 2. Must ‘do no significant harm’ to any of the other objectives. 3. Be carried out in compliance with minimum social safeguards. 4. Comply with technical screening criteria. Under the expanded Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD), there will be a mandatory requirement for the CIÉ Group to report under the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the EU Taxonomy reporting requirements. CIÉ Group are obliged to report under Climate Change Mitigation and Climate change adaption for Financial Year 2022 and will be required to report under all six categories for Financial Year 2023 and onwards. CIÉ Group will need support and guidance in reporting under the EU Taxonomy in order to ensure what we are reporting is consistent and verified across each of the Operating Companies, Holding Company and as a Group.
