Description
SRUC is inviting suitably qualified Bidders to tender for the construction of a new poultry facility at Easter Bush. All tender documents are available under SRUC document library within PCS. SRUC invites tenders for the construction of a new Avian Science Research Centre (Poultry facility) at Bush Estate, Midlothian. This is a flexible research facility encompassing areas of breeding, laying, hatching, growing and processing. Typically, facilities are used for studying nutrition, physiology, behaviour, health and welfare to better service breeding, nutrition and health research and knowledge exchange needs. Therefore, we are seeking bids from those who have specific specialised demonstrable experience delivering turnkey heated agricultural poultry buildings within the UK within the last 3 years. As bird welfare is paramount to our research work, bidders should have an applied knowledge of Home Office and UK government welfare standards. In addition, this project includes contractor’s design portion for services installations. Bidders should have specialist expertise in the design and construction of all mechanical and electrical systems necessary for the health and well-being of poultry stock such as heating and mechanical ventilation systems, lighting and watering systems and control systems. All bidders will be expected to offer solutions which offer best value for money, both in terms of capital (construction) costs but also in whole-life operational costs. Finally, bidders will be expected to clearly demonstrate that they will work collaboratively with SRUC in delivering this project. Following receipt and evaluation of tenders, a preferred bidder will be selected and a period of post tender open book negotiations will be undertaken as design proposals are finalised and agreed with the preferred bidder and SRUC’s design team. The preferred bidder will also be required to complete and submit SRUC’s Control of Contractor’s Health and Safety documents for review and approval prior to commencing works on-site. The Development: This development comprises the following: — preparatory site clearance and groundworks, — the construction of: —— 1 240 m2 Brooding House; —— 1 066 m2 Poultry House, store and feed mill; —— 276 m2 Laying House; —— 133 m2 Staff Hub; — external hard and soft landscaping, — associated refuse stores, plant enclosures etc. The estimated value of these works is c. 3 500 000 GBP — 4 000 000 GBP. Whilst not confirmed at this stage, it is possible that additional buildings (and associated works) will be added to the contract, post contract award, such as: — 1 090 m2 Carcass Evaluation Unit: a meat processing facility with associated specialist processing equipment, cold and freezer stores, mechanical and electrical installations and staff welfare facilities. This is the most complex building and so will need detailed dialogue around specifications. In addition, further design development is required in close liaison with the preferred equipment supplier who are likely to be appointed directly in due course, — 250 m2 Hatchery: an incubator facility with associated specialist incubators, hatchers and mechanical and electrical installations. — 160 m2 Muck Midden. Should the additional buildings noted above be added to the contract, the estimated value is likely to exceed 6 000 000 GBP. Full specification details can be found in the Tender documents available under the document library within PCS.
