Description

Homes for Net Zero (HfNZ) is a multi-phase research and demonstration trial designed to generate robust, real-world evidence on practical, scalable routes to decarbonising owner-occupied homes, particularly those that may have space constraints, with solid walls and gas combi boilers. Since its launch in November 2023, HfNZ has recruited approximately 1,250 homes across two phases, monitored their energy use and internal temperatures, and implemented interventions such as energy efficiency measures, Net Zero roadmaps, reversible air-to-air heat pumps, and heat batteries. The programme aims to inform policy and delivery models for the next 5–10 years, supporting the UK's strategic objectives to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, promote electrification in homes, and deliver growth, jobs, and innovation
