Description

The Caletwr Catchment Integrated Natural Resources Scheme (INRS) will establish and test an effective advisory partnership model to deliver high quality, joined up advice to eight farms within the Caletwr Farmer Cluster. The project aims to demonstrate how farmers can be supported to run productive, resilient farm businesses while also protecting and enhancing nature and natural resources. At the heart of the project is a collaborative approach between farmers, RSPB Cymru and a range of advisory and delivery partners. Together, the partnership will provide coordinated support that integrates food production, animal welfare, water management, nature recovery and climate objectives at both farm and catchment scale. Specifically, the project aims to: Support participating farmers to engage with, enter and effectively implement the Sustainable Farming Scheme (SFS), securing benefits for farming businesses, nature and society. Deliver integrated land management actions that protect and enhance natural resources, including soils, water, peatland and biodiversity. Improve the conservation status of Curlew, Wales’ most threatened breeding bird, through targeted habitat management and predator control delivered at scale within an Important Curlew Area. Restore and enhance degraded peatland, improve habitat condition and connectivity, and promote appropriate woodland and hedgerow creation to contribute to climate change mitigation, adaptation and net zero targets. Develop and test a cost‑effective, integrated advice and guidance model that brings together expertise on nature, natural resource management, animal health and welfare, and carbon management, ensuring farmers receive the right advice at the right time. Increase farmer knowledge, confidence and resilience through knowledge transfer, innovation and collaborative working, including trials of new approaches such as regenerative grazing, grazing breaks and Curlew management techniques. Use the project as a demonstration and learning platform to inform wider delivery across the surrounding landscape, supporting up to 100 farms and contributing evidence to future policy and collaborative delivery mechanisms, including the SFS collaborative layer.
