Conservation works to three National Monuments located in Galway City: Merlin castle, Tír Oileann Castle and Menlo Castle Lot 202517: Conservation repair works to three National Monuments located in Galway City: Merlin castle, Tír Oileann Castle and Menlo Castle Galway City Council require essential conservation works to three ruined national monuments on separate sites on the outskirts of the city: Merlin Castle, Tirellan (Terryland) Castle and Menlough Castle. This follows the preparation of conservation management plans for each structure in 2015, and the appointment of a multi-disciplinary team of consultants to oversee the repairs to best practice conservation standards. Works will be extended to include CMF Grant stream (Feb 2021) if awarded.Vandalism; unauthorised access; structural decay; use of cement mortars; graffiti, encroaching vegetation; are issues common to each of the structures. The works include vegetation treatment; clearance and disposal; consolidation of unstable masonry walls and openings; repointing of stonework using lime-rich mortars;specialist masonry repairs including structural repairs;stone carving; rough-racking and weathering using lime-rich mortars;non-abrasive stone cleaning; soft capping, gates,fencing.
