Size Reduction is one of the RAICo programme’s main themes and it is aiming at developing size reduction tools for fission decommissioning and fusion engineering applications. The tools shall meet a range of sizes and requirements but focusing on smaller tools than have been previously developed making them suitable for remote handling. Lot 1: Using robotics and AI in hazardous nuclear decommissioning environments will provide the step-change in capabilities needed to move towards a cheaper, faster, and less hazardous set of next generation decommissioning activities. The programme is managed by UKAEA’s Remote Applications in Challenging Environments (“RACE”) facility.
