Construction Works for Mitchell Memorial Theatre Refurbishment and Extension

Description

The Mitchell Memorial Youth Theatre, established in 1957, is a key Cultural building at the Southern Gateway to the Cultural Quarter in Stoke-on-Trent. The venue occupies a prominent position in the local environment and is in significant need of refurbishement. The proposed refurbishment of the Mitchell Memorial Theatre and Cartwright House is to alter the buildings to make them fit for purpose and allowing greater flexibility in the use of the spaces whilst not compromising the quality of the existing internal and external features. To create new hospitality facilities and reception area on the ground floor and a new full height glazed entrance. New modern dressing rooms adjacent the stage area and new seating to the auditorium will be provided. Cartwright House will be extended and altered to provide new practice rooms, 8 workspaces/offices for the use of the community focused creative industries, new heating and electrical services and redecoration. The development will for the first time allow maximum use of the Theatre and Cartwright House to be used as a single unit, allowing greater flexibility of the facilities. The building will be fully accessible to persons with disabilities by the installation of two 8 person lifts giving access to all floors in the theatre and Cartwright House in accordance with Part M of the Building Regulations. The construction works will be procured through a single partnering project using the ACA Standard Form of Contract for Partnering Projects PPC2000 which is a multi-party form of contract governing the whole project throughout the design and construction processes, bringing together the Client, Constructor, Specialist sub-contractors and Consultants.
