Description

Blackpool and The Fylde College is inviting closed sealed bids under the OJEU open Procedure for the provision of an Engineering Training System to the School of Engineering, for inclusion within the new Advanced Technology Centre opening September 2015. The ATC will be equipped with world class leading edge equipment to facilitate learning in the 21st century. From their first day students will learn to recognise different elements of hydraulic and pneumatic developments and operations. These elements and then by using the complementary equipment and software, will master many technologies during their learning journey. The equipment encompasses physical Pneumatic and PLC Trainers alongside virtual PLC, Pneumatic and robotic software environments for this. Underpinning knowledge is delivered by blended Learning platforms. These key pieces of equipment will be an introduction to 21st century engineering. The equipment is developed in line with the discussions with industrial and educational trainees and allows for continuing development and a base for student projects. The system acts as a focus for skills training in a range of engineering disciplines. The Practical Activities drawn up from the facilities allow the development of skills such as: — Analysis; — Maintenance, Diagnosis and fault repair; — PLC Programming; — Preparation of documentation; — Defining procedures; — Electronic measuring; — Sensor training; — Production planning and improvements. The facilities also integrate the following technologies: — Pneumatics/Electro-pneumatics; — Hydraulics/Electro hydraulics; — Industrial Communications; — Control Systems; — Electric Actuators / positioning techniques for ‘X' – ‘Y' axis; — Safety Devices; — Basic Mechanical Systems; — PLC Programming. The focus of the College is to provide individual learning pathways for our students. Local industry is extremely diverse and will provide many opportunities for tailoring skills to a particular task/project. The equipment that has been selected is deemed capable of fitting into most industrial sectors including aerospace, logistics, medical, automotive production and food technology. The generic elements (in the sense that they are the underpinning technologies) can be tailored to the individual sectors by updating the technology as it develops. In this way, a breadth of expertise will be created than can be built on for the next generation of projects.
