Description

Molecular Red Cell Genotyping (qPCR-based) The Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) is undertaking a Preliminary Market Consultation (PMC) to gather information from suppliers regarding molecular red cell genotyping assays based on real-time PCR (qPCR) technology for use in a transfusion medicine laboratory. IBTS currently performs molecular testing for red cell antigen genotyping as part of its specialist immunohaematology services. As part of future planning, IBTS is exploring qPCR-based solutions for red cell genotyping that may provide reliable, efficient testing workflows suitable for routine laboratory use. Through this consultation, IBTS wishes to understand the range of commercially available assays or kits capable of detecting clinically relevant red cell blood group variants and alleles used in transfusion practice. Potential solutions should ideally: • Use real-time PCR technology compatible with standard laboratory qPCR instruments. • Detect clinically significant red cell antigen variants relevant to transfusion medicine. • Include appropriate reagents, controls, and analysis guidance to support reliable interpretation. • Be suitable for routine laboratory workflows and supported by appropriate technical documentation.
