Description
Theatr Brycheiniog invites suitably qualified contractors to submit tenders for the design, supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance of a new integrated show relay, paging and voice announcement system. The existing system dates from the opening of the building in 1997 and has now reached the end of its operational life. Parts of the current installation have failed, replacement components are no longer readily available and the system no longer meets the operational needs of a modern theatre. The project forms part of a wider programme of capital investment to improve operational resilience, communication, accessibility and business continuity across the venue.The new system should: • Replace the existing end-of-life paging system. • Provide high-quality show relay through back of house areas • Improve operational communications. • Improve audience safety. • Improve staff communications. • Support day-to-day theatre operation. • Improve reliability. • Provide a scalable system capable of future expansion. Scope of Contract The successful contractor shall provide: • Full site survey. • Detailed system design. • Equipment specification. • Supply of all equipment. • Removal of obsolete equipment. • Installation. • New cabling. • Testing. • Commissioning. • Staff training. • User documentation. • As-built drawings. • Warranty. • Maintenance proposal. System Requirements The proposed system should provide an integrated solution capable of delivering: • Show relay audio. • Live paging. • Emergency announcements (where appropriate). • Front of House announcements. • Backstage announcements. • Zoned operation. • Independent volume control by area. • Clear speech intelligibility. • High reliability. The successful contractor should recommend the most appropriate technology to meet these operational requirements. Indicative Requirements The theatre's initial feasibility work indicates a requirement for approximately: Front of House Coverage including: • Main foyer • First floor bar • Second floor gallery • Public circulation spaces • Studio lobby • Public toilets • Stairwells Approximately 30 speakers. Backstage Coverage including: • Dressing rooms • Workshop • Kitchen • Technical offices • Meeting room • Administration offices • Staff room • Backstage circulation • Staircases Approximately 20 speakers subject to survey Total anticipated system: Approximately 50 speakers. This number is provided for budgeting purposes only. Tenderers should undertake their own survey and recommend the optimum number and location of speakers required to achieve consistent coverage. Control Equipment The system should include: • Front of House paging microphone. • Backstage paging microphone. • Equipment rack. • Digital signal processing. • Amplifiers. • User controls. • Zoning controls. • Network capability where appropriate. Audio Performance The system should provide: • Excellent speech intelligibility. • High-quality show relay. • Low maintenance. • Independent zone control. • Adjustable volume levels. • Assistive listening technologies. • The system should be suitable for professional theatre operation. Future Expansion Tenderers should explain how their proposed system could accommodate future integration with: • Additional paging points. • Additional speaker zones. Installation Requirements Works should include: • Removal of redundant equipment. • Replacement of all speaker cabling where required. • Installation of all new speakers. • New equipment rack. • Testing. • Commissioning. • Staff training. • Handover documentation. Installation should minimise disruption to theatre operations. Standards The installation shall comply with all relevant British Standards and current electrical regulations. All equipment should be suitable for installation within a professional theatre environment.
