GIS Consultant Brief – Cairngorms Peatland ACTION Lot 1: The Cairngorms Peatland ACTION Programme supports the restoration of degraded peatlands across the Cairngorms National Park. Peatlands play a vital role in carbon storage, biodiversity conservation, and water regulation, making their restoration a key priority in Scotland’s climate and nature recovery efforts. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are central to the planning, delivery, and reporting of peatland restoration projects. They enable accurate mapping of restoration areas, monitoring of change over time, and compliance with Peatland ACTION spatial data standards. At present, the programme is transitioning from ArcGIS Pro to QGIS to improve workflows. However, this shift has coincided with a backlog of spatial tasks and limited internal capacity to manage the transition and maintain consistent data standards. Consultant support is therefore required to clear this backlog, establish robust systems, and ensure the team is equipped to deliver spatial work effectively using QGIS. The Peatland Team will be trained in using QGIS between September and November 2025.
