Description

The Museum of Speed will be an iconic visitor destination which tells the story of Pendine beach and the land-speed records set here. This is a museum which will be fun, enjoyable, interactive, and educational, which will encourage visitors to say ‘wow’ – and make them want to visit again and again. The museum is in a unique location, based adjacent to the beach where so many land-speed records have been made. Historically in the 1920s, these included JG Parry Thomas with the ill-fated Babs which crashed and was buried on the beach, as well as Malcolm Campbell in his Sunbeam Bluebird. Campbell’s record stood until 2015 when it was finally beaten by the actor Idris Elba. Land speed records continue to be set at Pendine, and the new museum will celebrate the past and present, whilst looking to the future.
