Description

In order to help Danish milk production to contribute to meeting the national requirements for reducing the climate impact, in the short term until 2030, and form the basis for the work towards a potential climate neutral milk production in 2050. Aarhus University wants to buy a system design to measure gas fluxes of methane (CH4), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Oxygen (O2), Hydrogen (H2) and Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) from cows. Aarhus University wants to buy a system that can measure the amount of methane emission rather accurate from up to 20 cows in the same group in a loose housing system. Such equipment is needed to test all cows in the herd to identify the relevant cows for subsequent use in intensive studies. Requirements to be fulfilled by the system: (a) the system must measure both air flow and concentration of the gasses in question in order to measure the exact amount of each gas during the visit of an animal at the feeder; (b) sensors that can measure precisely the concentration of CH4, CO2 and H2, and with an option to add other sensors that can also measure other gasses; (c) monitoring the placement of animals head in the feeder while measurements are made to make sure that all gasses erupted and expired by the animal is measured; (d) the system should have an option to connect a sampling system that can take out gas samples for external measurements; (e) the animals must be identified with RFID tags; (f) the system should have an option to use a dual hopper, that can feed 2 different feeds at a precise amount of each feed according to individual setting for each animal in the group; (g) the system should be usable both out door for grazing animals and in door in loose housing barns; (h) it should be possible to connect a wind sensor; (i) the system should contain data management software that validate data quality and gives the user both raw data and processed data, which gives information on both daily gas production per animal and the diurnal pattern in the gas production; (j) the supplier should be able to deliver 4 units of the equipment within 3 month from the date an agreement is settled.
