To prepare a Feasibility Study for the Irish Language Cultural Centre in Ennis Co Clare

Bord Stiúrtha An Clár as Gaeilge invites suitable consultants to prepare a Feasibility Study for an Irish Language Cultural Centre in Ennis Co Clare. The term ‘consultant’ used in this document may refer to an individual, a team, or a consortium. Establishing an Irish Cultural Centre in the town or providing Irish spaces is one of the main themes that emerged in the Ennis Town Language Plan. (Measure 4: Ennis Town Language Plan) This measure supports language planning criteria for a town with ‘Líonra’ status (The Gaeltacht Act 2012) – number 8: “Appropriate social activities through the medium of Irish for young people and other age groups available and an appropriate language policy in place for those activities in the appropriate town”, – number 9: “Appropriate opportunities available in the appropriate town to learn and use Irish outside the education system”. – number 10: “How much Irish is used in social and leisure realms in the appropriate town”. 2. The Objective The proposed work is to commission and publish a Feasibility Study to make a strong case and lay the foundations for developing an Irish Cultural Centre in Ennis Co Clare. Resulting from detailed discussions with Clare County Council, it was decided that the building which had housed the Clare Local Studies Centre – “The Manse” – would be the most suitable location for an Irish Language Developmnent Centre in Ennis, as it was vacant at present. A detailed analysis of what is required to complete the proposed project. The Feasibility Study should be the result of the analysis and interpretation of the results from the research carried out.
