Description
1.1 Purpose of this PMC Document: As part of this pre-tender market engagement, Cork County Council seeks to consult with suitably qualified contractors in relation to the proposed Bantry Mill Culvert Upgrade Project, comprising construction works and associated design works. It is envisaged that the Preliminary Market Consultation will afford Cork County Council an opportunity to explore the approaches both in place and currently under development in the marketplace, which may be relevant to the design and construction of this project. 1.2 Background Information: The Bantry Mill Culvert Upgrade Project (BMCUP) aims to address the deteriorating condition and limited hydraulic capacity of a critical culvert infrastructure asset in Bantry Town. The existing culvert, approximately 445 m long, extends from Bantry Library to Bantry Harbour and comprises a combination of precast concrete and masonry arch sections. The masonry elements, which form the majority of the structure, are in poor structural condition (Category 2) and present reduced loadcarrying capability. The culvert currently suffers from inadequate hydraulic performance, particularly at transitions between single and twin arch sections, and where existing services pass through it. These constraints, combined with #dal influences and the steep surrounding catchment, contribute to frequent flooding, including surcharging of the culvert, backflow in drainage networks, and uplift pressures on the structure. The proposed scheme will involve the upgrade or replacement of the culvert, diversion of wastewater connections to the public foul sewer network, and removal of existing storm and foul connections. The objective is to provide adequate structural capacity for traffic loading and improve hydraulic performance, as far as reasonably practicable. The project will be developed alongside, but independently from, a separate Flood Relief Scheme for Bantry, with due consideration given to interactions between both schemes. The attached document is for information purposes only and to inform the industry that it is expected that the tender process for the Bantry Mill Culvert Upgrade Project, commencing with a prequalification stage, will begin in this year 2026 and it is hoped to commence this in the coming months subject to Approvals required.
