The agreement is for the supply of an appropriate form of alternative water of an approved quality and quantity provided to, or made available to, affected customers within a defined response time. This service is to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year across Southern Water’s operational areas of Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, Surrey and the Isle of Wight. The service provider must ensure sufficient quantities of quality proven and quality assured product is available as dictated by the varied circumstances and challengers that Southern Water may face. There are 2 main scenarios where Southern Water will request alternative water: — emergency response – up to a minimum of 350 000 litres of water per day delivered anywhere within the Southern Water region within 4 hours, — planned response – a delivery of water at a location, date and time of Southern Waters designation when the request was placed. The service provider should also have the ability to scale up the supply of portable water in times of larger incidents, to meet the needs of Southern Water above the described minimum of 350 000 litres per day. To support this, the service provider is required to provide and manage portable water that is appropriately packaged and strategically placed to ensure a response time within 4 hours of receiving notification from Southern Water for an emergency request. Ready-use stocks at sites are also to be provided by the service provider. The service provider shall have available tankers suitable for drinking water of a size suitable for filling tanks in any type of public road. Also to be able to source sufficient quantities of other tankers, including if necessary food grade tankers, (suitably cleaned, disinfected and quality proven) to ensure a response time within the designated response times (for rapid response). The service provider should have available tankers and drivers to meet the requirement for delivery of 480 000 litres of tankered water to any location specified by Southern Water, within 4 hours of notification. This service level shall re-set and be applicable daily.
