The Veterinary Institute annually documents the suitability of up to 2 500 broodstock for use in cultivation and gene banks. This involves testing the genetic source, something that the Veterinary Institute cannot do itself. It must be possible to deliver the analysis results 4 working days after the samples were sent. The Veterinary Institute would like to procure a service that, with the help of DNA from a fish scale with molecular genetic methods, involves analysing broodstock for the following: — the original population of the broodstock, — wild/fish farm origin, — relationship between broodstock pairs, — tracing fish — parent allocation. Only the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) has a documented test for distinguishing between wild/fish farm origins.
