Geological and geophysical instruments

Description

The geophysical institute intends to acquire 3-4 ocean gliders (1000 m) for use in the Nordic seas and the Fram Strait, primarily from the east Greenland shelf break, across the Greenland continental slope, and into the deep Greenland and Iceland basins. The gliders will operate along repeat transects throughout the year and contribute to the monitoring of the hydrography and circulation of the Nordic Seas, by sampling the temperature and salinity structure through standard CTD sensors and inferred ocean currents from depth-averaged currents and hydrography. Extensive mission lengths of up to 1 year duration (at least 10 months), with flexible sampling schemes are planned. For more information see Appendix 01.
