Provision of Academic Personal Assistants

An Academic Personal Assistant (PA) may be required to: • Assist with mobility and orientation around DkIT Campus and assist with field trips if required • Assist with educational tasks, sourcing library books, photocopying, lockers etc. • Assist with carrying personal belongings including books, folders, bags etc. • A PA may also be required to provide personal assistance to a student. These duties and responsibilities may include assisting the student with their personal needs such as bathroom breaks, hygiene, meals. They will also facilitate the student’s participation in a programme of study but will not assist with nor complete any of the work associated with that programme of study. Some PAs will also need to act as Note Takers and therefore may be required to: • Record accurate and detailed notes either freehand or using electronic devices such as laptops etc., on lecture content delivered in lectures or other forms of module delivery for the student. Note takers must be able to record notes quickly and accurately, have legible hand-writing and or be proficient in the use of technology (e.g. have good typing skills) as well as good spelling and grammar. They must be able to provide the student with the notes no later than 24 hours after the class. Discretion and complete confidentially should be a core element of the role.
