Forest Product Trade Flow Analysis for Ireland (2019-2023)

Published

Description

The task involved in the proposed contract is to undertake a Forest Products Trade Flow Analysis 2019-2023 for Ireland with a primary goal to assess wood product flows over the time period in a comprehensive manner. The analysis must follow the pathway of products from the time the trees are felled in the forest, progressing through the supply chain, and ending with the consumption of final products. Building on previous work by COFORD (2013)3 the aim is to produce an updated wood flow inventory for the Republic of Ireland from harvest to end use for the years 2019-2023. The geographic scope for the annual wood resource balance should be forest products that originated in both publicly owned and privately owned forests in the Republic of Ireland, as well as any imports that are accounted for in the NIR. For this it is important to be aware that a considerable exchange of forest materials and products are made across the border into and from Northern Ireland. Data figures should be provided in tonnes and cubic metres. Reasoning for any discrepancies in the data should also be reported. The results of the study are intended to serve as a valuable insight and visualisation into the wood product end use chain and provide for greater input accuracy into Ireland’s NIR for HWP. The results may also provide valuable information for monitoring and facilitating compliance with Irish renewable energy targets.
