Description

The plasma furnace will be used for research on the reduction, refining and valorisation of slags and other waste products from metallurgical processes as well as for the treatment primary ores and concentrates. The contractor is responsible for engineering, building, delivery, installation and commissioning of the plasma furnace as well as the instruction and training of operatives. Lot 1: Experiments in the plant will typically last three or four days and consists of following steps: • controlled heating up the furnace plant with a temperature increase over time that will minimize damage of the refractory lining • introducing material via a granule feeder station • intermittently tapping of metal and slag phase • emptying the furnace by a final tapping • cooling down the furnace with a temperature decrease over time that will minimize damage of the refractory lining Typical materials to be treated in the furnace plant are: • electric arc furnace slags and dusts • waelz process’ slags • copper converter and nickel-copper converter slags • ferronickel slags • refractory linings of smelting furnaces The plasma furnace has to be equipped with a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Process Logic Controls (PLC) and a Human Machine Interface (HMI). The plasma furnace will be connected to an exhaust-gas cleaning system that are not yet installed. The maximum budget for the machine with installation are 2.4 million euros net. The manufacturing of the components of the plant has to be finished by 15.6.2023. The design of the plasma furnace has to guarantee the retrofittability of injection lances. These lances shall be used to introduce gases, solids and liquids into the bath. The injection lances will be procured via a different procurement process at a later point in time. Available onsite infrastructure and the requirements for the plasma furnace on place requirements are detail descriped. Fully detailed requirements are listed in the tender documents.
