Description

The NPWS are looking to renovate a derelict two-storey farm house on lands owned and managed by the NPWS at Dromcarban, Co. Kerry (Figure 1, Photo 1, Grid reference: W 07870 86940). This property lies within Killarney National Park, Macgillycuddy's Reeks and Caragh River Catchment Special Area of Conservation (SAC) (site code: 000365) and is currently used as a maternity roost by 40 no. lesser horseshoe bats, which are a qualifying interest species for the SAC. Due to the deterioration of the building, numbers have been declining and work is required to improve the condition of the building and allow bat numbers to stabilise and increase.
