Library Evening and Weekend Staffing

Following on from the success of the 2022 Library Security project, the Library and Learning Resource (LLR) has been providing evening and weekend opening hours using a combination of fixed term casual staff and agency provided security staff. For the academic years 23-24 and 24-25 the Library and Learning Resources service seeks to appoint an external agency to provide appropriate individuals to undertake the required duties to cover evening, weekend, designated Bank Holiday, Open Days/Events and vacation period opening hours. This tender is to provide appropriate staffing cover for two years, with a further optional extension for 1 year (3 years total). These services would need to commence for September 2023, with an agreed induction programme beforehand. Currently, the service provision is managed through a rota system, which will remain in place. This system requires employees to work as needed within the service, necessitating some flexibility regarding working hours. Presently, 12 individuals, distributed across Swansea, Carmarthen, and Lampeter, cover the current hours based on their availability. They handle unexpected absences, sickness, and may travel to other campuses when required. However, the service is not confined to only 12 people; additional individuals could be included based on the contracted supplier's approach to covering the hours for each position.
