Helse Nord-Trøndelag HF would like to procure 2 transportable incubators from Medidyne AS. The equipment can only be procured from this supplier as it is critical for life and health that the set up is identical with the set up that the Air Ambulance Service uses. It has been decided that Nord-Trøndelag HF (HNT) will procure 2 transportable incubators from Medidyne AS. The equipment can only be procured from this supplier as it is critical for life and health that the set up is identical with the set up that the Air Ambulance Service uses. The background for this is that pre-hospital cooperation, e.g., driving to meet the patient with an ambulance, would not be possible without an identical set up. The incubator transporters from HNT´s hospitals are mainly acute time-critical transporters. It is of utmost importance that the involved personnel know, have experience with, and can ensure correct use of the equipment that is used, and that they can quickly identify and correct errors. This requires in-depth knowledge of the incubator that is used, and includes electricity/gas, connections, packing plan, as well as medical technical equipment. Incubator transportation of newborns are particularly critical, as the patient is extremely vulnerable to environmental and physiological changes, and a change of equipment during transportation of this patient group is not responsible and will not be carried out. When there is a change of personnel in acute transport situations, e.g., when an ambulance with personnel from HNT and the air ambulance meet the patient, it is, therefore, necessary that the new personnel meet an identical set up, as an unknown set up would have a high risk of unwanted events that could lead to patient injury, and, in the worst case, death. Incubator transportations with unknown incubators would not be carried out.
