Description

The Palace of Westminster is a Grade I listed building and part of the Westminster World Heritage Site. The deteriorating fabric condition of the external courtyards at the Palace necessitates that remedial works are undertaken. The present project aims to bring the fabric to the courtyards back into a good state of repair, addressing any fabric and structural issues. This includes stonework, windows, rainwater drainage systems, etc. and to restore the courtyards' architectural integrity through the reinstatement of lost features and cleaning and repair of deteriorated elements. To facilitate these remedial works this 4 year framework is being set up for undertaking the following scope of works in the courtyards. The scope of work in each courtyard will typically include the following: Cleaning and repair of all masonry fabric, including specialist conservation work to carved and medieval elements; Reinstatement of lost stone features; Refurbishment of all windows, both bronze and leaded, within the courtyards; Remedial works to address any structural issues; Repair of defective rainwater goods and all above ground pipework, including associated fittings; Repair and refurbishment of all historic metalwork fixed to the courtyard elevations, including railings. The Contracting Authority will look for a degree of visibility and transparency in the Framework Contractors sub-contract arrangements, and particularly the selection of specialist sub-contractors who will deliver more sensitive aspects of the Contractors responsibilities. It is anticipated that the repair works undertaken will have a design life of no less than 50 years. All works are expected to be carried out by skilled operatives with experience working in their relevant trade on listed buildings. The Houses of Parliament is accredited by Citizens UK (CUK) as London Living Wage Employers.
