Description

Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) was established by the Irish Government under the Horse and Greyhound Racing Act 2001 and the Irish Horseracing Industry Act 1994. It is a commercial semi-state body that is responsible for the administration, promotion and development of Horse Racing in Ireland. HRI subsidiaries include Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Ltd (ITM), Tote Ireland Ltd and HRI Racecourse Division consisting of Leopardstown Racecourse, Fairyhouse Racecourse, Navan Racecourse, Tipperary Racecourse and Leopardstown Golf Centre. HRI Headquarters are located in Ballymany, Newbridge, Co Kildare. Leopardstown Racecourse (The Leopardstown Club Ltd) Leopardstown Racecourse is one of four racecourses owned and managed by Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) and is the only racecourse in Dublin, located 6 miles south of the city centre in Sandyford. It stages approximately 23 race meetings throughout the year, including the Christmas Festival, Irish Gold Cup, QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes and a series of evening meetings throughout the summer months. The racecourse had attendance figures of approximately 161,530 across the 23 race meetings in 2014. Longines Irish Champions Weekend (LICW) remains Ireland’s newest racing event, designed to create a major impact on the world racing stage. It is an annual event with the inaugural event having taken place in September 2014. The LICW is a major initiative for the Irish bloodstock industry and is an opportunity to showcase Ireland on a global stage. Therefore it has been decided to either charter a plane to bring horses from Paris to Dublin for the weekend of the LICW or to book places on existing planes that transports equines on the weekend required.
