Iarnród Éireann, Irish Rail (IÉ) have a requirement for: A Railhead cleaning product for rapid removal and / or prevention of the build-up of organic leaf contamination. Please include detailed instructions of how product is applied and use. The CCE Department continuously reviews best practice in low rail adhesion solutions. In 2023, 26,000 delay minutes were caused by LRA conditions. In 2022 there was significant LRA incident in Division 1 due to leaf contamination. The current procedure involves appling a Sandite solution to the rails using on-track machines and track side applicators. The current treatment alleviates the LRA conditions and does not remove leaf contamination. Irish Rail is seeking information on the market availability of potential solutions which reduce the ongoing maintenance requirement in the form of a railhead cleaning product solution.
