Description

Peatland restoration project with a site area of 127 ha (of which 110 ha have erosion features that are to be restored) to be delivered on Invercauld Estate in the Cairngorms National Park. Lot 1: This tender is for a peatland restoration project with a site area of 127 ha (of which 110 ha have erosion features that are to be restored) to be delivered on Invercauld Estate in the Cairngorms National Park. The work will be tendered on a day rate (time and materials) basis. The works will commence in early August 2025 with an expected completion date of no later than 19th December 2025. Four low ground pressure machines will be needed to complete the project in the required timeline. Helicopter lifts of 200 x 750kg stone units (150 tonnes in total), 1,920m2 of coir mesh, 9,600 x 300mm pegs, 210 x 3m coir logs and materials for 80 x 3m timber dams will be required. It is anticipated that the distance for the helicopter to travel on each flight will be in the region of 5km one way (10km round trip). Helicopter flights will have to be scheduled for a time when it is confirmed that there are no protected breeding bird species constraints (so likely after week commencing 4th August). Once the stone has been dropped on site, it will need to be formed into the required function (i.e. dam/baffle/spillway/rock armour) by hand. Peatland ACTION funding is secured and in place for this project.
