RoadCap - Portal.

Description

Vestland County intends to enter into a contract with RoadCap AS in order to test a concept with very quick set up of a tunnel portal. The concept means that a tunnel portal can be set up in an area at risk of avalanches in just a few days. This concept can reduce the risk for both road users and personnel. Vestland County will be the owner of the RoadCap portal, which will be installed at the eastern portal of the Liaros tunnel on county road 49. Lot 1: There are many old tunnels along the existing road network. Many end in an area at risk of avalanches. In some places the portals are far too short. This means that the portal mouth is often exposed to avalanches. When avalanche protection is planned, the professional environment often resists proposing an extension to an existing portal. The reason is that it involves considerable avalanche protection in the terrain before the construction of a tradition concrete portal can start. The whole operation is therefore risky and takes a long time. It is not unusual that a 20-30 m long portal in an area exposed to avalanches leads to a 7-8 month construction period. This also leads to major challenges for road users on the road. A new concept has recently been developed that can be set up quickly. This concept is called RoadCap, and it consists of prefabricated sections that can be assembled in just a few hours. We would like to test this concept along the county road network. There is a proposal to extend the northern portal of the Liaros tunnel on county road 49. The entire portal system of 21 metres is planned to be set up over the course of three to four days, and will then be ready for normal traffic.
