Description
Halton Borough Council is a Unitary Authority providing services for the towns of Runcorn and Widnes in the North West of England. The Council for statutory purposes and its own internal use maintains a GIS system – MapInfo. For external mapping purposes (i.e. its Internet web site) it uses iShareMaps from Astun Technology. The Council operates a largely Windows virtualised (vmWare) infrastructure and would be deploying the chosen solution on this platform. The solution will be deployed across the Authorities Intranet platform (Windows server and IIS) and must be capable of supporting up to 1,000 users simultaneously. Currently the Council provides this facility through PlanWeb. Client devices currently operate Windows 7 on a mixture of laptop and desktop devices, however the Council are moving towards a VDi based platform (whilst still operating through Windows). The purpose of this Request For Quotation is to specify a matching technology suitable for internal (i.e. Intranet based) mapping purposes.
