Description

Through a phased ground investigation, comprising both intrusive and non-intrusive exploratory methods, landfill material was identified to the immediate south and east of an existing ESB pylon (wooden pole set), carrying 110kV powerlines. As part of the broader proposed Whitestown remediation works, this material will be removed by means of excavation and replaced with suitable fill material (imported Class 1 fill or lean mix concrete if deemed necessary). Excavation will be undertaken on a phased approach within manageable bays to ensure the stability of the adjacent pylon. The critical excavation works, which are located to the south of the ESB pylon and beneath the powerlines, will be undertaken during a designated powerline outage period. The remaining excavation works, to the east of the pylon, can be undertaken when the powerlines are live. The anticipated works will be subject to ESB Networks - Code of Practice for Avoiding Danger from Overhead Electricity Lines (COP).
