Contract for the Provision of Visitor Centre Services

The Secretary of State for Justice will be inviting tenders to carry out a Contract for the Provision of Visitor Centre Services at the following establishments: HMP Channings Wood, Newton Abbott, Devon HMP Dartmoor, Yelverton, Devon HMP Exeter, Exeter The primary aim of a visitor centre is to actively support friends and families in maintaining positive links with relatives and friends in prison. The following provision is required under the Contract: •Visitors Centre – In brief, the aim of the visitor centre is to facilitate the support of children, families and friends of those in custody, that are visiting at the establishment. •Children’s play Service – In brief, the aim of a children’s play service is to facilitate family ties by providing suitable child friendly facilities and supervised play and activities. •Family Support Service – In brief, the aim of the family support service is to meet the needs of family and friends of those in custody through offering appropriate support services. •First Night Service (HMP Exeter only, commencing on 01 April 2009) – In brief, the aim of the First Night Service is to provide support to offenders for their first few days in custody. The aim is to reduce the risk of suicide and self harm through providing positive support and guidance. The contract period will be for 3 Years and 6 months. The Contract shall commence on 01 October 2008 and expire on 31 March 2012. Whilst it is the preference of the Authority to award one Contract to cover all three establishments, consideration will be given to service providers who wish to tender for one or more establishments.
