Description

NRW is responsible for the management of the Welsh Government Woodland Estate (WGWE) and land in our care. This framework is required for a contractor resource to survey, supply and the apply nematodes to forestry clearfell sites, prior to commencement of restocking operations, in order to provide effective biological control of the large pine weevil Hylobius abietis. Pine weevils are a major forestry pest which threaten the viable establishment of new tree crops. Lot 1: Forest Operations teams across Wales require this service in order to successfully establish new forestry crops on former clearfell sites, in the absence of chemical alternatives. Effective crop establishment and maintenance of a sustainable productive timber supply is a critical element in maintaining NRWs UKAWAS certification.
