Description
Destination Earth (or DestinE) is an initiative funded by the European Commission (under DG-CNECT) and co-developed by three Entrusted Entities (3Es): the European Space Agency (ESA), the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT). The objective of this initiative is to develop - on a global scale - a highly accurate digital model of the Earth to monitor and predict the interaction between natural phenomena and human activities. The main building blocks of the infrastructure, required to reach DestinE’s ambitious goals, are: a) The DestinE core Service Platform (DESP; responsibility of ESA), based on an open, flexible, scalable, and evolvable secure cloud-based architecture. b) The DestinE Data Lake (DEDL; responsibility of EUMETSAT) for handling the storage and access requirements for any input and output DestinE data. c) The Digital Twin Engine (DTE; responsibility of ECMWF) Lot 1: Destination Earth (or DestinE) is an initiative funded by the European Commission (under DG-CNECT) and co-developed by three Entrusted Entities (3Es): the European Space Agency (ESA), the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT). The scope of this tender is to procure a first set of use cases for DESP to be onboarded in the DestinE Use Cases project. These use cases are expected to touch upon different topics, with a high impact for citizen and society. The use cases object of this procurement has to be based on operational or pre-operational software with policy makers as intended users, which can benefit from the deployment on DESP in several way (e.g. better performances, cost reduction, better resolution, etc.). The software developed will be opensource. Bidders are requested to create consortium in which the end user of the use case is included and plays an active role in steering the agile development process of the use case and in the final validation. The contractor will also participate in the outreach and promotion activities performed by the DestinE Use Cases project. A variety of Use Cases are expected to be selected addressing different topics and of different complexity.
