Description

This tender seeks to appoint a suitably qualified contractor to carry out peatland restoration on Coull Farm, Isle of Islay. Coull Farm contains blanket bog habitat and the restoration work will consist of work on two subsites, in winter 2025/26. Coull 4 is the northern-most subsite is 53.8ha. The Coull 3 subsite is approximately 500m south of the aforementioned subsite, is 94.3ha Lot 1: The restoration work will consist of work on two subsites, in winter 2025/26. Coull 4 is the northern-most subsite is 53.8ha with a central grid reference of NR 217 661 (Figs 1 and 3). Coull 3 subsite is approximately 500m south of the aforementioned subsite, is 94.3ha with a central grid reference of NR 213 650 (Figs 1 and 2). The predominant restoration feature for both subsites is peat bank reprofiling as peat extraction has been extensive. Other restoration techniques that will be undertaken include drain blocking, gully blocking and reprofiling and shallow trench bunding. Peat depths are generally deep with the average peat depth across both subsites falling between a 2.5-3m depth range.
