Broadcasting equipment

NRK has begun a procurement process to replace and renew our audio processing equipment for TV and internet. See detailed information in the tender documents. In June 2016, in conjunction with the largest broadcasters in Norway, NRK standardised their audio output signals to EBU R128 with a target level of — 23LUFS. To comprehensively implement this on all platforms, and in order to meet future requirements, we are looking into the possibilities of renewing and upgrading the audio processing equipment. For simpler maintenance and more effective adjustments, we plan to centralise the sound picture of our regional outputs. Currently the equipment used for loudness-normalisation is located near the production. With limited access to qualified personnel locally, we can see the advantage of a service for all regions at NRK in Oslo. We also have a need to reach an increased public who use our streaming services in a manner comparable with the perceived quality of our traditional television broadcasting. Loudness-normalisation is therefore also important on internet-based platforms.
