TC01395 Inspection, Maintenance & Repair Contract for Penstocks & Flap Valves – Port of Felixstowe

Description

The works will comprise the inspection, maintenance and repair of 31 number penstocks and 35 flap valves. The penstocks and flap valves are located within the surface water drainage system in outfall chambers adjacent to the main quay walls at the Port of Felixstowe. Confined space entry shall be required for these inspections and the chambers range from 3m to 6m in depth. The penstocks and flap valves are designed to prevent back flow at high tide and, when closed, prevent flooding from tidal surges. The penstocks may also be closed to prevent contaminated water entering the river, should the drainage system become polluted. The penstocks and flap valves shall be inspected on a six monthly basis.
