Description

Falls prevention and post-fall decision support are critical components of care in community and residential settings. The iStumble app, developed by Winncare, provides a clinically validated decision-making framework for non and clinical staff to assess and respond to falls safely and effectively. The iStumble app is currently the only commercially available digital tool that offers a structured post-fall assessment and decision support pathway aligned with NHS community care protocols. The previously available HelpFall app, which served as a comparable alternative and was used during the falls pilot, is no longer available for purchase due to Felgains discontinuing supply of Raizer chairs and associated software. The app supports safe lifting decisions, reducing unnecessary ambulance callouts and hospital admissions. It aligns with NHS England's falls response models and supports workforce empowerment in care homes and domiciliary care. The summary below outlines the outcomes of a collaborative pilot project conducted through a partnership between West Northamptonshire Council (WNC), North Northamptonshire Council (NNC), Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT), and the Integrated Care Board (ICB). The initiative aimed to reduce long lies and minimise ambulance callouts following falls. The pilot and the associated procurement exercise are funded by the ICB and the initial plan was to purchase the solution through the Equipment Contract, however, due to budget limitations it's no longer possible. Impact of Falls: Falls range from minor injuries to major incidents including fractures and head injuries. The project has demonstrated significant operational and financial benefits by reducing ambulance callouts using lifting devices. · Current Outcomes: · 418 lifts completed, with 91 additional lifts by EMAS first responders. · Estimated ambulance cost avoidance of £140,000 in the first year. · Time savings: 1,196 hours saved based on reduced ambulance wait times. · Governance & Reporting: · Use of HelpFall tool for post-fall decision support and reporting. · Issues identified with underreporting and low usage in some care homes. · Training and reminders have been implemented to improve compliance. · Future Plans: · Expand deployment of Raizer 2 chairs and HelpFall tool. · Introduce GPS tracking and community access via wall-mounted cabinets. · Establish community wardens to manage equipment. ## Contract award
