ExaMUC Supercomputer

Description

he supercomputer codenamed ExaMUC, is intended for use as national Tier-1 high performance computing resource. ExaMUC will be operated by the Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities on behalf of the Gauss Center for Supercomputing. ExaMUC is expected to deliver outstanding international application performance for a wide range of user applications and to achieve one of the top positions among supercomputers worldwide. Lot 1: The innovation partnership is a multi-stage procedure. In a first step, based on concept studies for the planned system together with proposals for target prototype systems, two bidders were selected (first through a competitive bidding process and then through technical negotiations). These bidders then provide one or more prototype systems (with technical innovations in both hardware and software) to be further developed in a co-design process with LRZ staff, from which lessons can be learned for the final ExaMUC system. At the end of the process, bidders can then submit final system bids for ExaMUC, based on the results in the prototypes, from which a partner will be selected to deliver, install, and maintain the ExaMUC supercomputer.
