Description
Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (the Council) is looking to establish a Contract for Engineering and Construction work with a Provider for undertaking reactive maintenance. Darfield River Bridge (Barnsley Council Structure No: B3.225) is a single span simply supported concrete overbridge that carries A635, a two-lane single carriageway, over River Dearne, Barnsley. The ''Scope of Work'' has been proposed as follows: - Traffic Management compliance with the Specification. - Pavement Design compliance with CD 236 Surface Course Materials for Construction. - Removal and replacement of existing verge and surfacing materials, waterproofing compliance with CD 358 Waterproofing and Surfacing of Concrete - Bridge Decks, kerbs and road marking for entire bridge deck and either side of the bridge deck as required. - Carry out topographical survey of the deck once surfacing is removed, condition survey as defined within the Specification and minor concrete repairs to bridge deck as required. - Minor concrete repairs to concrete deck compliance with Series 5700 of the Specification for Highway Works - Concrete Repair. - Removal and replacement of the bridge deck expansion joints on a like-for-like basis (ETAG 032: Part 2 - Buried expansion joint / BD 33: Type 1 - Buried joint under continuous surfacing and ETAG 032: Part 3 - Flexible Plug joint / BD 33: Type 2 - Asphaltic Plug joint) subject to the surfacing depth requirement following the deck survey. Otherwise, the Contractor shall propose a suitable joint type for Overseeing Organisation approval to include a watertight seal above both abutments including secondary drainage membrane compliance with CD 357 Bridge Expansion Joints. The main proposed maintenance activities will include: - Remove existing surfacing and waterproofing on the carriageway and verges as per required and replace as defined within the Specification. - Remove road surfacing either side of the bridge deck and replace as required. - Carry out topographical survey of the deck once surfacing is removed, condition survey as defined within the Specification and minor concrete repairs to bridge deck as required. - Remove existing bridge deck expansion joint materials and install new joints as defined within the Specification. - Apply new sprayed waterproofing system as defined within the Specification. - Remove kerbs on the bridge deck and either side of the bridge deck as per required and reinstate on a like-for-like basis. - Remove footway material on either side of the bridge deck as per required and reinstate on a like-for-like basis. - Reinstate road markings on the bridge deck and either side of the bridge deck as required and on a like-for-like basis. Traffic management with a series of lane closure will be required for the Works with associated traffic control systems.
