Objectives: To train practitioners in Children’s centres, Early Help and Early Years teams to better support dads and male carers in our area through the following courses: The Fatherhood Champions course looks at: • Being a Champion • Understanding the framing of fatherhood in UK society, services and families • Identifying and unpicking unconscious bias • Understanding men's journeys into fatherhood • Exploring co-parenting relationships – presence, time, stability • Foundational understanding of the research evidence; fathers impacts on children, mothers, and how fatherhood impacts men themselves • Assessing and identifying conflict in co-parenting relationships • Assessing your service • Exploring men's experiences of accessing family services • Providing support that resonates with fathers • Exploring men’s help seeking behaviours • Fundamentals of father-inclusive practice • Exploring case studies and best practice • Using the audit tool and quality assurance The Fathers Reading Every Day (FRED) training looks at: • The evidence and research base around fathers’ impact on their children’s • attainment and development. • Systemic engagement and father-inclusive practice • Examining fathers’ experiences of navigating services, exploring opportunities • and barriers. • Delivering FRED in creative ways • Using the FRED resources and manual. Becoming Dad offers groups of expectant fathers the opportunity to learn caregiving skills and navigate the practical and emotional challenges of early fatherhood. Alongside recent new fathers and trained facilitators, the men work through a wide-ranging curriculum designed to build their confidence around: • Hands-on baby care (e.g. nappy changing, bathing and baby-handling) • Health and safety (e.g. danger signs to look out for, safe sleeping and shaken baby syndrome) • Bonding and attachment • Mental health (their own and their partners’) Summary of work requested: • Provide a 3 day programme of training for up to 16 participants as Fatherhood Champions • Provide a 1 day programme of training for up to 16 participants to deliver FRED • Provide a 2 day programme of training for up to 16 participants to deliver Becoming Dad
