Description

To remove existing playground equipment and the supply, delivery an installation of new playground equipment, including site preparation, removal of existing surfacing and installation of new safety surfacing. Bathampton Parish Council (BPC) is seeking to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified playground contractor to design, supply, and install a new children's playground, meeting the standards of the Association of Play Industries (API). This project forms part of BPC's vision to modernise a well-used village facility, creating a safer, more inclusive, and engaging space for children and families to meet and socialise. Lot 1: Scope of Works: Removal and Disposal: Safe removal and disposal of existing playground equipment and surfacing. Where possible, suppliers should explore opportunities to recycle or refurbish existing equipment. Play Equipment Design and Installation: Provide a range of play equipment catering to different age groups, with inclusive and accessible features. Equipment for older children (7+ years) should offer challenging features, such as climbing structures, social play elements, and high slides, while limiting access for younger children. Equipment for pre-school children (under 5 years) should support safe, independent play and self-confidence. A bridge and slide multi-play structure, popular with current users, is highly desirable. Retention and Modernisation of Classic Features: Incorporate modernised versions of community-favourite equipment, including older children's swings, basket swing, zip-wire, toddler swings, roundabout, and see-saw. Zip-wire replacement should match the length of the existing structure; if budget does not allow full replacement, include ramp replacement, repainting, and new safety surfacing. Playground Surfacing: Install new safety-compliant surfacing, preferably wet-pour for durability and low maintenance. Consider coloured/flecked finishes to complement the green setting. Sections of Dura Lawn or other visual enhancements around younger children's areas may be included. Surfacing should be as continuous as possible to minimise edges while retaining natural grass perimeter. Exclusions: Equipment such as trampolines, sand pits, tunnels, or features requiring intensive maintenance should be excluded. Focus on durability, ease of upkeep, and long-term resilience. Seating and Community Amenities: Provide additional seating, including benches and picnic tables, with some fully accessible for mobility-impaired users. Consider child-friendly seating that is easily accessible during play. Access Improvements: Improve access from the pavement to the playground entrance with a durable, inclusive surface. Standards, Warranties, and Compliance: Ensure all equipment and surfacing comply with British Standards (BS EN 1176, BS EN 1177). Include full details of warranties and guarantees in submitted quotes. All preliminaries, including fencing, storage, welfare, and post-installation inspection, must be included. Insurance Requirements: Contractors must hold public liability insurance of at least £5 million and employers' liability insurance of at least £10 million. Optional Considerations: Use of sustainable materials and eco-conscious solutions is encouraged. Community Engagement: Final designs will be reviewed by Bathampton Parish Council and shared with the community for feedback. Contractors may be required to provide visual materials (posters, boards) suitable for public display. Delivery: All quotes must include delivery, installation, and completion of works as specified. Additional information: Suppliers should refer to the procurement documents available via Find a Tender for full technical specifications, drawings, and detailed requirements. The contract includes removal of existing playground equipment and surfacing, supply and installation of new inclusive and age-appropriate equipment, safety surfacing compliant with BS EN 1176 and BS EN 1177, seating, accessible pathways, fencing, storage, welfare, and post-installation inspection.
